Hello everyone. I just purchased a 1998 olds intrigue and opened the trunk after it had rained and found water had been leaking inside. A friend at work has the same problem with the same car and another friend has the same problem but with an alero. Has any one else had the same problem? If you have, please let me know if it can be fixed and what needed to be done. I'm a new member and would appreciate any help that is given, thank you very much. apc14606

Re: 1998 olds intrigue trunk leaking
Does your car have a rear spoiler? If so, I would check / seal up the mounting holes first.
Get in the trunk with a flashlight and have somebody hose it down until you see the leak. |

leaking trunk on 98 intrigue
Thanks for the information on checking the spoiler, both corners by the tail lights were wet and water was running down the carpeting, also I pulled back the carpeting on the side and saw that there was some surface rust on top of the shock/strut tower and that water was dripping in on top of it,so I ran my hand underneath from the back windshield to the taillight and it was all wet under there,I did the same thing on the other side and found the same problem. I'm wondering if maybe the back windshield needs to be resealed? Thanks again for your help and reply, any other help and replies would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1998 olds intrigue trunk leaking
The rear glass leaking certainly would have me concerned, please let me know what it takes to fix that problem. Maybe call GM or check with AllData and see if there's a TSB or something on water leaking from that area. I would still hop in the trunk and see if I could pin it down to a definite location. Hopefully a good glass shop would be able to reseal the glass. Good luck with this one, and let me know what it takes!

I opened the trunk after it had rained and found that the water had been leaking from the top bolt hole that holds the taillight on,the black plastic nut that holds the mesh in the trunk doesn't provide a very good seal as i ran some water down the trunk chanel and found that the water is in fact leaking at this spot,so i undid the nut from the bolt and pulled away the carpeting and saw the water leaking in. To fix it i put a rubber washer around the bolt, then i put the carpeting in place and tightened the nut and ran some more water down the chanel and it doesn't leak anymore from that spot,i also did the other side and it doesn't leak anymore either. As far as the water that i had found on top of the shock/strut tower, there was no water there after it had rained, and i did not drive the car while it was raining, but when i took the car out the other day when it was raining i checked it again after i got home and i found water in those spots on both sides and it was not wet up above those spots,so the only thing that i could think of was that it is being sprayed up from the tires through the seams,so i checked under the wheel well and found that a good portion of undercoating was missing from the spot where it is wet by the seam,i am going to buy a couple of cans of undercoating and respray those spots and i'll let you know how that works out, talk to you later,apc14606.
