Question '99 Brake Noise?

Have had what I believe is brake noise since I acquired the car two years ago. Before I changed brakes all around the car would shudder somewhat during heavy deceleration. The OEM equipment was badly corroded - the rotors unserviceable due to small chunks missing from the outer circumference. I replaced the rotors and re-padded with Napa Ceramix pads - total mileage 42000. I still have cyclic (i.e. clearly related to tires/wheels/brakes) noise at most speeds. Does not seem to increase markedly when turning so I am not immediately thinking bearings although I don't rule it out. Wheels are tight - no movement top/bottom, side/side when elevated. Tires original Goodyears, nearing time for replacement but still with decent tread.
If it is the brakes, why am I dealing with, what seems to be, rotor warpage 6500 miles after the brake change? I think the sound is more pronounced on the rear, but is also still there on the front drivetrain as I hear and feel it especially when I ride in the passenger seat. I do not have additional vibration when braking.
I am not talking loud here, just noticeable to a picky ear. My wife hears it, but it is not prevalent to her.

I'm scratching my head here. I did read a post related to corrosion on the mating surfaces of the hub/rotor which I intend to look into.

Any ideas/experiences would be appreciated

Re: '99 Brake Noise?

What does the noise sound like? Droning, squealing, rubbing, ticking, etc.

Re: '99 Brake Noise?

Hi
I would call it a rubbing type sound. My mind says it sounds like warped rotors...whum whum whum whum.....yet as I said they are new (6000mi). Audible at low and high speed, constant, somewhat dampened when braking.

I guess I wondered if this was an issue with others.

Thanks

Re: '99 Brake Noise?

I'm wondering if you're hearing a tire type of sound. Several years ago when I was still at the Pontiac dealer (2001) we had a few Grand Ams that made a strange type of rubbing sound, more noticeably at lower speeds, like a whish-whish-whish type of sound with wheel rotation. It was more noticeable when cruising around the building with the window down, and the sound was reflecting back. After doing brakes, axles, cv's, and anything else we could think of, we broke down the tires and cleaned all the corrosion off the inside of the aluminum wheels where they meet the tire. Believe it or not, this fixed the noise. Just something to consider........

Re: '99 Brake Noise?

Thanks for that. Not something I would have considered. I am at 42500 on the OEM Goodyears. I will probably replace them relatively soon. Perhaps that will reveal the problem.

thanks
