One day I got in my 85 Jetta GLI and started it up and it ran like CRAP! It ran like it was missing horribly, but didn't really know. I changed plugs , wires, cap and router. No change. I ran a compression check and it is fairly close. When I took off my new plugs, there was wet fuel on them (a fair amount). Any thoughts? I bought the car real cheap, but don't want to give up yet. It seems like parts are so expensive!

Re: '85 jetta running VERY rough!!
Check the resistance across the coolant temp sensor pins (located in flange where upper radiator hose joins cylinder head). Resistance should be 2000-3000 Ohms cold & go to 200-300 Ohms at operating temp.

Re: '85 jetta running VERY rough!!
If the readings are incorrect, replace it.
