Formula Drift Season Opener: Wall Stadium in New Jersey

Well folks, it's been a long off season with a lot of twists and turns, but as of this weekend, the gents of SCCA Formula Drift are returning to the track. There've been some big movements in the off season (Ken Gushi's factory Mustang ride, the massive Falken operation, Sam Hubinette's Viper Competition Coupe being replaced with a street Viper) and everything is set for what should prove to be one fantastic season.

Of course, those of us with G4/TechTV will get the chance to actually watch the events that we're unable to attend, so I'm expecting lots of statements along the lines of "Did you see _____" and "Man, ______ got screwed by the judges when he did ______".

The confirmed entry list has been posted by Formula Drift PR representatives, and it includes all of the usual suspects. I'm banking, honestly, on a Rhys Millen victory as he's proven ridiculously strong in the off-season (3rd at the East vs West Fontana GT Live event and 5th in the D1 GP at Irwindale) and he won't be fighting unfamiliar equipment, either.

So, take a look, speak your mind, watch the f*cking event, and let's talk about our motorsport.

Re: Formula Drift Season Opener: Wall Stadium in New Jersey

I can't wait for Formula D to come to Houston. Last year, I had a blast. I was able to get a tire signed by Alex Pheiffer. I wonder if security will let me bring it in so I can get more autographs on it this time.hehe I saw Benson and Nadine just chilling next to his Sileighty, but didn't get to talk to them. A couple girls might be going with me this year, and they'll probably want to talk to Nadine about getting into drifting if she's there.

By the way, our local heroes, Team Bubbadrift has a new driver, and a new car. The new driver, Mike, will pilot the El Camino, which now sports a flat black paint job. They've had a supercharger on it for a while, but I didn't get to see it until a few weeks ago; it sounds mean! Derrick, the veteran driver, will debut a new car at Formula D. It's a Datsun 240Z with an Infiniti V8 and, if I heard right, a rear suspension from a C4 Corvette. Should be interesting.

I found a cheap AE86 SR5 hatch($100, needs new engine) for one of my friends, and he wanted to see if he could get it running and participate. He had tried drifting another guy's GMC Sonoma and seemed to have a knack for it. Well, we still haven't even bought the AE86 yet, so it's doubtful that will happen. Still, we're really looking forward to FD.
