1985 voyager 2.2 mits motor or tranny problem

i have a 1985 plym voyager. i just got it for free. the van will start ok and idle ok, but when you put it into drive it kills. is it timming? or tranny problem? what can i check ? thanks for the help. kellyscott

Hard to tell from that simple description but I'd guess it is electrical. Any other symptoms?
