Question 91 4.0L dies after 20 min drive

Hi guys,

I just got a 5 speed 91 Renegade from a used car lot with 100k mi on it. The jeep had to jumped start at the dealer (I believe it's been sitting there for a while) and it took longer time to start the engine. In the 1st 20 min, the jeep runs great until then... the engine started to choke, stall in all gears, stepped on gas, no help and wouldn't pick up the speed.... it finally dead.

I tried to start it several times, engine turns but choked, stalled and shutted down.

After 2 days, I tried to start the jeep, the engine turned a bit and die, so I jumped it (started the jeep right away). It helped to crank the engine but didn't kick all the way.

I checked the battery guage level, the needle sits pretty low to the left.

Help..... guys!!!

Thanks,

Ben

What engine do you have? If it's a 4.0l or 2.5l fuel injected I would start looking at the fuel pump. Otherwise if the electrical system isn't working right then there is no spark. First if it is fuel injected just check for fuel pressure when the key is turned to on, but don't turn the engine over, I think your looking for at least 40 psi. start basic and work your way up. Get a good battery too

MyJeepSux,

Thanks for the advices. Indeed it's because of the fuel pump.
