Bypassing Theft System For Remote Start

I have a 3.8 Litre 98 Grand Prix. I am wanting to add remote start to it and I was wondering if anybody knew what module I would need to bypass the securty where it will start. Thanks.

I work at a car stereo shop in michigan where we install many types of remote starts. You do not a need an imobilzer bypass module to remote start the vehicle. It does not have a theft system. You will however need to tap into the factory alarm disarm wire when you install the remote start so the factory alarm doesnt go off whenever you start it. Also you will need a second relay for the trunk if you are adding keyless entry with the remote start because the trunk switch is positive pulsed and the trunk wire is negative pulsed coming out of the remote start brain. Hope this helps.

If you install an aftermarket remote start your keycode will stop functioning with most methods of the install.

Thanks for your replies. Hmm not sure if I should go on with the install or not then. My Grand Prix didn't come with security I wouldn't think as I had to install keyless entry myself. I was going to add remote start on the auxillary channel of my keyless entry. If I would need it would you happen to know where that security disarm wire would be located. Maybe a wire color. Thanks.

Yes as a matter of fact I do. Ive only done 127634764897124 remote starts on these cars in my lifetime. (smart alac) The disarm wire is orange and black. It will be found in the 32 pin plug in the drivers kick panel. Pin 5 on the plug i think it is. If you want to test to make sure its the right wire ground your test light and probe the wire with the doors locked. After about 4 or 5 seconds the doors will unlock if you have the right wire. Let me know if you need more help.

I didn't mean to sound smart alecky in any way. I'm sorry it if sounded like it. The reason that I said that I wasn't sure if I would go along with the install is because I don't feel that I would be able to do it. Should I hook that Security wire to where you would normally hook up a immobiliser bypass module. Thanks

No, that wire is a simple circuit. It just has to see a "ground" to disarm the alarm. Again, there are no such immobolizers on your car. All you'll need is the remote start itself and hook it up. You can look up your car's wiring info on www.bulldogsecurity.com
