Help please, truck won't work
Hey, I am having a big problem with my truck and can't figure out what it is. I have a 92 silverado with a 4.3L V6 in it. Lately, my truck has died occasionally when it is ideling. After that, when I go to crank it over, it just turns over and over without ever starting. I thought that this was a fuel problem so I replaced the fuel filter and it worked great for about 4 days. Tonight, I was at home depot and I was going to leave. I started my truck and after about 30 seconds, it kind of sputtered and died. I noticed that my guages jumped around right before it died. Also, when I go to start it, I notice that the temp guage goes all the way to the right hand side. I can't remember if this is normal or not because I never paid attention to it before today. ANyways, I don't know if my thermostat is bad and giving a false temp which is not allowing my truck to start or what. Also, it sputtered and died almost right after I turned on my headlights. It has done this to me like three times at night but it also did it once during the day with no lights. Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much, Jimmy Dager |

Re: Help please, truck won't work
Also, I just had the starter replaced in the truck a week ago and it started doing this to me the very next day. I don't know if it is related or not but it is a heck of a coincidence. Is there something I can check to see if there is something wrong with the starter?
Thanks |

Re: Help please, truck won't work
Hi,believe it or not this sounds to me like a fuel pump pressure problem because of all of the intermittent sputtering and dying. Also going 4 trouble free days after filter replacement.Could also be computer or possibly control module.Have your fuel pressure tested. Good luck!

Re: Help please, truck won't work
Hey,
It ended up being a fried ignition module. If anyone else is having a problem similar to mine, I would deffnitly suggest taking this off and taking it to an auto store and having it tested. It is free and really easy for you to do and could save you hundreds in parts if you just guess and replace parts or take it to a shop. On my truck and similar years, it is located right under the distributer cap. It is held down with two little bolts and has three wire harnesses going to it. just take this piece off and have it tested, might save you lots of time and headache. Thanks for everyones help.
