96 Grand Cherokee tranny
I replace the transmission and rear-end on my 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6cyl auto 4wd. Everything went fine except the vac hose from the tranny to the engine. I don't remember where it attaches. There is the vac hose and a 4 inch piece of tubing hanging loose. When I test drove it, it wouldn't change gears til it red lined.

Re: 96 Grand Cherokee tranny
Someone go out and pop the hood on your Cherokee and look on the passenger side near the bell housing. There is a va line coming from the tranny. Where does it go?

are you sure its a vac hose,,not a vent for the transfer-case,,,,or vac to the transfer-case shift controls,,,,the trans requires no vac,,,high shift points should be corrected by adjusting throttle valve linkage from trans to engine

Re: 96 Grand Cherokee tranny
not sure about the vacuum line, but the shifting problem sounds like a really loosely adjusted TV Cable, adjust the Throttle Valve cable and it should take care of it.
