'98 626 Major Oil Consumption ????

Our car has the 4cyl. 94k miles. Symptoms are: 1) 1.5-2qts of oil blowing out the tailpipe in approx 550mi. When Oil is on hi point of stick...start up cold...white/blue smoke shows up. Once the car's stick shows no oil...no smoke. 2) Tailpipe as a definate black ring around outside of end of pipe. 3) Engine light is on...code PO421. Car runs great otherwise...no funny noises (ticking/knocking) from engine.
