I'm a newbie to the whole auto maintanaince and mod thing...sister is giving me her Audi A4 2.8 Quattro '96....the car won't budge in drive, but i can drive it in "L, 2, 3, 4"....im thinking its the tranny but not really sure....can i drive it in the L 2, 3, and 4 or will that hurt the car in any way?...also once i have that fixed im looking to put some performance mods into it...any ideas? the car has 114K miles on it...is it really worth putting any money into? thanks for your help!!

to answer the mods question, no. regardless of what anyone less will tell you there is nothing worth buying that is worth it. a $500 chip will get you 18 horses, a $250 cold air intake with get you 3-5 horses, and a $750 to $1000 exhaust will get you very little as well. basically the only thing worth getting is a supercharger from motodyne (if someone trys to tell you that PES makes a supercharger, theyre not lying, they're just wrong), but thats going to run you 5 grand without installation. however, its going to give you somthing like 85 more hp and 100 more ft/lbs of torque. i've looked all this up, ive got a 96, and ive found its not worth it. and you dont need it. if the cars in good shape then it will speak for itself, its not a civic that you HAVE to mod to get looks. my cars not fast but i get a ton of looks from people and hear it a lot from my friends that they like my car. i dont need to prove it to them with mods (though i would like it to be faster ) anyways god luck on the tranny, im sure the tranny is the problem. it wont hurt it too much if you drive it from L, 2, 3, 4, but just drive it to the machanic

The car is currently in Indiana and I need to get it out to Jersey to have it fixed...the mechanic i go to has his garage here...only place i really trust....would you recommend having the car towed here? or could i drive it here?

well that kinda sucks, youd be driving it all the way there without being able to put it in 5th (yes it is a 5-speed auto). youd be revving high all the way back, thats going to be a lot of stress on the engine and that's a lot of miles. if it was me, id have your sister get it fixed in jersey. i understand the thing about trusting someone to fix your car, but im sure there are plenty of great, fair mechanics between jersey and indiana.

Exclamation re: driving from Indiana to Jersey

if i was to drive it at a slower speed the whole way to jersey....i wouldnt be revving it as high....would that help? such as if i was traveling at 45 MPH the whole way....it'll be a pain in the rear but i could do it...also is it even worth having the tranny replaced? any rough price quotes?
