1976 Corvette Questions
First: How do you replace the spring in the automatic shifter lever?
Second: What activates the telescoping steering column? Where is the switch or lever? Mine will telescope but only when the star retaining bolt is loosened. Thanks for the help. Steve |

#2. Theres a collar on the steeering column right behind the steering wheel that turns about 1/10th of a turn counter-clockwise. This loosens the telescopic part, pull it out or push it in to the desired location and turn the collar/ring CW to tighten. |

If you are referring to the spring in the top of the shifter, that can be removed after spinning the silver button, counter clockwise, in the top of the shifter knob. I have a '79, and if they are the same, then that is how you do it.

Re: 1976 Corvette Questions
The spring in my shifter is in the bottom of the shaft. A rod runs from the silver button down through the shaft and pushes on a spring. The spring keeps the shifter in the right position i.e. Drive, Reverse etc. via a tab sticking out the side of the shaft. But the spring in the bottom is wore out and wont keep the shifter in position. That is the spring I need to replace. Thanks again for the help.
