Re: finding the vss

I'm not sure about the 98 Intrigue, but on the 2002 it is on the passenger side in the extension case (as GM calls it). Basically, on top of the housing where the rt axle goes into the transmission.

The VSS has nothing to do with the rev limiter. Rev limiting is a function of the ECU/PCM based on input from the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) and ignition control module (ICM), etc for engine safety purposes. For example: if you rev up to 4000 rpm from an idle, the rev limiter should kick in and cause cutoff. To get over the top speed barrier (speed limiter/governor), the ECU/PCM needs to be re-programmed to have the speed limiter programming removed/modified. Altering the VSS to get any effect could result in tranny shifting problems and the torque convertor locking up at improper speeds not to mention problems with your speedometer.

It depends on which engine he has. DHP might do a custom re-programming job on the Intrigue if it has the 3800. They don't openly advertise any ECU/PCM mods for the Intrigue. However, they specialize in GM "W" bodies and the 3800.

Another company named ASE does re-program the ECU for Intrigues with the 3.5L engine. Not many choices out there except for the Olds Alero model 99 and up. We got our ECU for a '02 Alero GL2 re-programmed by ASE about a year ago at a cost of $400.
