5 series -is it an M20 or an M50??

Hi Guys! *n00b Alert!* I've got a 1990 525i and I'm trying to order a new exhaust - here's the question! - How do i find out if it's an M20 or an M50?? Eurocarparts aren't much help when you don't know what exactly the beast is!

If it has a distributor cap and wires it is a m20, if multiple coils an m50.
