86, ranger engine swap =??

hi anyone know what,s compatible with a 1986 ranger 2.9 L v/6 5speed. i need an engine. also where,s the best place to find a good used one??? thanks. in new orleans.

I'm not sure, exactly. I would think 2.3 and 5.0 liter engines would bolt to the transmission fine, but motor mounts would have to be changed. Are you wanting more performance, economy, or just another engine?

the old engine just wore out. just another engine needed.

It's MUCH easier just to swap in another 2.9 V6.
Swapping in a different engine type can produce substantial difficulties and complications and are likely not worth it (unless you really need a Mustang 5.0 in your Ranger )

Since your truck is not so old, call up some local auto salvage yards for availability and prices. There is something called a Hollander interchange manual, (the salvage yard should have one) which should be able to tell you what other years of 2.9 V6 will fit.
