New 2 Forum, Question on buying a 7

Hey I am new to the forum and have been thinking of getting a 93/34 RX7. Even though I do not know alot about this car, but I am an rx7 enthusiastic. So anyone have any advices on where to find a decent one with around 8-8.5k max!? Also, if I found out, what are some of the concern that I need to take serious consideration of or what should I do to check if the car is in good shape or not? I know many people think that a newbie is not good with this car, b/c its a high maintainence car, but yet, thats the point of buying this car. I want to know more and learn more about it. So anyone that has some good advices or sites which i could take a good look at, that would be really helpful. Also, I am located in San Francisco, California, anyone selling a STOCK RX7 stick with good mileage, please let me know, I might even have 10k for a clean one! most FDs cost around 12 to 15k if they are in good condition, you can find a beat on one for your 8k if you would like.

Hey man, first of all, i appreciated for your opinion, but yet, please keep your comment to yourself. Hey if 8k is how much I wanted to get for a RX7, then thats how much I will be paying for one, I dont need your comment on who I am and what i do. And I am here to ask for advice, not trying to low ball anyone. Nor you are selling your car and I am offering 8k for it, so please keep your comment to urself, and state ur advice would be gladly appreciated.

Well there we go, we dont have be an ass on the forum, just be nice and chill a bit. And thanks alot for being considerate. But I do have some money reserved, since I asked alot of friends and people over the net, I've decided to drop around 10k for one, so if anyone know anyone is selling their 7 near the CA SF area, please let me know, it would be a great help! Thanks.

not that this is what you want to hear but.... I'd suggest buying a 86-91 NA and playing with it for 4-5 months and save up another grand or two and then buy your FD... you will learn some basics with the car and have more money to make a better investment rather than buying something that will be a bigger hassle than it is worth

thanks alot for the advice, I thought about it, but then I dont want to waste money and time to get on another car, well the FCs are kewl but its not my type, and I might be jumping the gun but I guess I will stick with it and try my best. Also I baby my car very carefully and I am sure I will take good care of one if i have one. So no worries, and thanks alot once again for these great advices from everyone.

dont really matter how well u care for it. another honest opinion, i bought one for 8500 with 130,000 miles on it. i put it in the shop and 12,000 dollars later it worked. spend 12-15 or ull end up spending that rebuilding turbos, motors, etc........funny thing is the mechanic totalled it on the test drive so i didnt get to drive it long, but i had a 93 for a year. now i bought a 88 anniversary for 6,500 with 70,000 on it. hate to admit it but i would also find a fc and hook it up with the rest of the loot. same power potentials. i wish u luck if u do jump on it tho.......owning my 2 were the best experiences i had in my life! just expensive!

my first advice is not to buy a 10k$ FD
its runing for problems.

my second advice is not to buy an fd even if you find one for 10k$ in good shape, because if you can barely afford the car, you wont be able to afford the repairs and maintnance.

my third advice is that you should not get upset by ppl telling you ur a low baller cuz you realy are one, and you should accept the fact you cant pay yourself an FD.

my last advice is that u should get something that tends less to break, if you dont have much money to spend on the car, you'll be riding your bycicle more often than the car, thoses bitches breaks and tend to cost alot when they do.

yea he's right... not the best idea... I know how you feel though, you are wanting it right now right away but in the long run if you save a little more it will be a much happier experience for you

listen to everyone, they`re right. u really wont find a good 1 for that price, unless maybe u would think about auto? those r all u can get cheap, and think about it, if u spend 8k like som1 said, u WILL almost certainly be looking at something going wrong eventually, i mean cmon i love em, but its an rx7. and u said yourself your just learning? so you`ll ber looking at way more $ in the end most likely, even than getting another car 1st. if u wanna get to know them u really need to start small, trust me its worth the wait. like soyo said an n/a would be a nice starter, good price, thats what i had\have before my 3rd gen, soyo has his b4 he got a t2 and its really a good idea.

i bought a fc 1986 GLU rx7 (n/a) for $180 ... didn't run, but it cranked over. towed it to a warm garage, put some atf fluid in the rotor chambers, new plugs, new ECU, and replaced the terribly worn out transmisson and driveshaft... i've got approx $300 in this car, and it runs great, the body is a little rough, but to own a fast rotary for that money, its unheard of.

the rx7 is a well balanced machine, great handling, linear power and excellent brakes. a wonderful car and i'd love to have an fd.

yea you can pick up an S4 cheap... even a running one can be found for 500-800 bucks a lot of times and thats all you need to start learning and it is cheap enough to help save money for a more expensive FD
