98 Ranger 3.0L...dieseling??...

I have a 98 Ranger XLT with 3.0L V6, standard trans. When I excellerate hard to pass, I get a 'dieseling' sound from the engine, and the truck isn't very responsive (as far as getting up to speed quickly). What is this and can it be solved?!! Thanks all!!

"Pinging" 3.0 very well known for this. Try better grade gas or "hot water bypass" read this - http://www.rangerpowersports.com/for...hlight=pinging - Good Luck!

Thanks for the info!! I'm not sure if I'm mechanically inclined enough to try the 'hot water by-pass' thingy, but I will try better gas!!
