99 gsx 5speed, still stock, plans for upgraded turbo<16gor20g>, 3" exhaust, fmic, and support

I'm making the assumption that getting a new block and head like from sbr would help me safely make more power. Now if this is wrong feel free to correct me and leave it at that i don't mind. But if i'm right then where would be the best place to get it from and i know sbr has stages, so which stages or whatever from which company. I did a search on af and all i found was posts on cars that had blown an engine not necessarilly ones that were performance oriented, once again i don't mind if i'm wrong, i'm ready for a verbal beating, lol. from what i've read sbr's stage 3 block and stage 2 head seems like the way to go to me, but you all are the one's with the experience, thanx

The stock internals on the 4g63 can handle over 400hp. Maxing out the capabilites of that 16g, you'd be fine. The 20g could be a different story, but neither necessitate a built block for upgrade purposes. As far as hp per dollar there are better ways to spend your money.

It seems like you have some money to throw around, which is cool. Think goals with your turbo. An evo 16g will carry you into the 12 second range with good tuning, and the 20g could take you into the 11's. If you outright have the money to get a built block, look into getting a good size turbo to make the most of it.

If you do get an engine, buschur is pretty popular. Sbr, I'm sure, is very good, too. The horsepower is bound to be more reliable but doesn't necessarily justify the money. Get a good size turbo, tune well with supporting mods, and then fix the engine if it breaks. At your level you're safe and better off putting the money in a turbo.

but wouldn't getting a new head<higher flowing> help no matter what or should that also be put off?

Go for it, it's all a decision of where you want your money. It will help. What you're looking for is maximized air flow with fuel support. The turbo will determine max potential airflow, the rest helps it happen. Again, it's not necessary, but it'll help.

My view on this is that built motors just cost more when the blow up. And they do. I took out a mint 130k miles 6 bolt and put a SBR stage 2 block in. 20k later, a spark plug came apart at 10.3:1 and zero knock, and took out the number 2 cylinder. If that was on the stock block, it would have hurt the wallet a lot less. I wouldnt get the expensive motor stuff until you are actually challenging the stock parts. But its your choice. You could argue this either way...

the stock 6-bolt 4g63's have been proven to handle over 500hp stock. if you still want to upgrade, there are a number of places that do that sort of stuff.
