Re: 97 jetta stock radio
You can either have four holes or slots, either way do an eBay search on "european radio removal" or "BMW radio removal" with the search description button checked & you can see the tool kit needed.

like said above, there are 4 holes, a wire coat hanger should work. just push in the 4 fholes at one time and the radio should come right out. anything that can fit in there should work. and if you are putting in an after market radio you should need a wiring harness and maybe an antenna adaptor. the radio should fit in with out the need of the plastic piece that is used to take up the extra room. im not sure what the name of it is. if you need more help...mail me...

Re: 97 jetta stock radio
yeah, thats what i thought too. my 97 has a stock Bose system. i couldn;t get the bugger out with anything and the tools i have from ols stereos didn;t work, so i took out the heater controls and got my hand behind the deck and started pulling. slid out fairly easy. lots of work tho.
as far as replacing, i have been looking into that too, but i took it in to a shop and they quoted my about $1000 (US) because they say they have to tear out everything, including all wires and cables. and that price was if i use a deck i already own.....i am looking elsewhere. |
