Wiring Through Firewall....

I hope someone can help me out...and in a bit of a hurry...I was looking to install these emergency lights on my truck, and got stuck on where do I run the wires through the firewall....I can't seem to figure it out...the lights are behind the front grill, and the switch I would like it on the kickplate under the steering wheel....How do you run those wires? Can someone explain in detail... Thanks a bunch....

Re: Wiring Through Firewall....

Yup. The other Faze is right. You might have to pull the carpet back some, but there's some grommets there.

I did the same thing when I ran the power for my amp - Pulled the wire through the firewall under the driver's side.

Re: Wiring Through Firewall....

Yep. I rarely have to drill holes in cars these days doing what I have to do. There is usually some HUGE gromet to use. If I am running small wires like for an alarm or remote start, I use a 12" piece of brake tubing. I cut one end at an angle. It works great. You just simply push it through the gromet then feed the wire inside it. Then, go on the other side of the firewall and pull all of it through. That way, you don't have to worry about wires chaffing.

Re: Wiring Through Firewall....

Sorry, what does a grommet look like? How far do I have to remove the carpet, or do I have to move it all? Thanks for all the help.

Re: Wiring Through Firewall....

The grommet's gonna look like a round or oblong black rubber or plastic plug.

IIRC, I ran my wiring up above the steering column, and just used a flathead screwdriver to pry it off enough to push through the wiring. I used a screwdriver long enough that would allow me to have enough leverage to pry open a big enough gap to reach it from both sides.

Hope that helps.

Re: Wiring Through Firewall....

Thanks for all your help guys, I found the grommet, it was located in the left side and was only about 1 in a half inch by 1 in a half inches...You only needed to remove like less then one foot of carpet...was really easy....Anyways, I added my lights and they are so cool, the blue then the red, then the blue then the red again....looks like a cop car....Now I can stop any dawm Honda, and write him a ticket....I want to get some more strobes....I think I'll give ebay a shot once again....I guess the modding never stops, once you start you can't stop.....REALLY ADDICTIVE.....
