'bout to give up on my brakes...any advice
I put on Nissan pads (at a heafty $100) and problem still exists. Rear passenger brake makes a breif clattering and moaning sound when i go over bumps, cracks, whatever...I put plenty of that blue stuff on when i put the pads on. This wouldn't be the 1st time I have caliper problems on a Nissan (if that's what it turns out to be)
Anyone got any ideas? |

Shims & Anti Rattle clips
Go back to Nissan and get a shim kit. Make sure the kit comes with the anti-rattle clips as well. Actually you might be able to buy just the anti rattle clips seperate. That will stop your rattles.

thanx for the reply but....i went to nissan and purchased everything they had in shims and anti-rattle clips but it doesn't look to be anything different than what came on the car (and is still there.)
i've replaced the pads w/ nissan factory pads. still had the rattle (not as bad) but also developed a "moaning" sound when moving slowly and barely applying the brakes. i jacked up the car and spun the wheel just a little back and forth and noticed the pad had some play in it. it was not a snug fit inside the clips i took a small piece of razor blade and wedged it in between where the top metal clip meets the caliper. this seemed to stop the play.... but i still i've got the moaning sound. any ideas? |

There was a problem with the rear brakes hanging up slightly in the rear. Not sure what Nissan was doing, replacing the calipers perhaps? I'd try to bend the shims (take the razor out) to make things fit a bit more snug. Also there are guide pins (I think) in the rear which the calipers float on. Check to see if the caliper moves freely on the guides. I had the moan when backing up with my car was new. It just seemed to go away after a while.
Check your wheels/hubs after a drive to see if there getting hot. That would indicate you have a caliper dragging. (HEAT) If thats the case, you may just need to rebuild or get new calipers. Good luck with it! |
