Tranny or CV?

So the other day I am out for a drive and the van (98 ply grand voyager) is acting a little sluggish - nothing that instantly alerted me to a problem, just a little slow to pass on the interstate (not even sure if it is related). Anyway - I reach my desitnation & I am doing alot of slow driving thru residential neighborhoods for my job, stop-start turn around things (I am looking at houses, finding address.) I am stopped at a house, and when I go to pull out - CLUNK - like I had hit something, but there was nothing there. I put it in reverse and get nothing. I put in in drive and get it to pull out into the street. I stop to take a look, see nothing wrong, so I put it in gear and NOTHING. The engine rev's but I have no forward motion. (and I am in the middle of the street)

So someone offers to help push it out of the road. Put it in neutral and it won't move with 3 guys pushing - like it is locked in gear. Run all the gears and the same - no neutral. Finally someone else jumps in, puts it in reverse - and it drives FORWARD.

Ok - I'm thinking transmission, check fluid and it's ok - color good, correct level, no shavings - Check linkage - also ok. Transmission is trying to shift - I can feel it engage, but the wheels won't turn. So I check CV axles. Both boots intact.

So - anyone have any ideas? I have checked with someone else who owns a caravan, and he thinks the CV axle (excessive wear with all the stops and turns) says can be bad without breaking the boot. For now the plan is to tow home, pull axles and check. Otherwise I think I am looking at a new tranny. I have had no prior trouble with this van 130K+ miles.
