Oil gage freaking out!

I was driving on the interstate today and the oil gage started freaking out. The needle jumps around between half way and high. Is it time for a new pump or could something else be bad? Thanks for the help!

The oil guage on my '97 "vibrates' at lower engine speeds, but calms down at higher speeds.
Another fellow on this site suggested that the sending unit is at fault.
I'd agree, as i can't see the pressure changing THAT quickly.
The sensor is by the distributor.
I haven't fixed mine yet (waiting for better weather).

Re: Oil gage freaking out!

If the pump was going bad you wouldn't see spikes in the oil pressure on the high side, you'd see diminishing pressure.
It most likely is the oil pressure switch. You might inspect the wires and connection prior to running out and buying the part.
Your van's symptoms match what mine did exactly. In my case it was the oil pressure switch.
