engine opinion

okay it will be a couple of months before i can start due to my rear end goin out but i think im gonna rebuild my first engine, and yes money is a factor so i was wondering what i should go w/. my dad has rebuilt many but only a carb and i want fuel injection even if it is just tbi (i have had no problems w/ my 305 tbi kinda like the injection system) so what should i get and what would the cost be of the four engines ruffly (mainly just wanna know what the bang for buck would be) ive been thinking either: just plain old solid 350, 383, 400, or an older 327 if i can find one mabey out of an old vet (i know someone who owns a junk yard so i could get lucky on some parts) i would kinda want to stear clear of the 383 if possible cause i dont know what machine shops are good around here and my dad has never stroked an engine i belive. also another thing to keep in mind is this will be my daily driver so if i can balance dependebility, gas mileage, longevity, cost, and power i would like to lol. i really only need about 300-350 hp out of it at most i just wanna be able to run light to light every now and again...thanx

Re: engine opinion

I know someone is going to ask so what type of price range are you looking at? I would suggest going with a 350 SB because they are fairly cheap and there are tons of parts avaliable. My friend just put a 350 SB in his 72 Chevelle now its running low 14's (spining thru second) with just a few bolt on's.
