97 Accord Fan motor squeaks.

The fan in my boyfriend's car just squeaks badly when he turns on the fan. Those noise just made us turn the fan off completely, and we were frozen during the whole ride.

Anyone has any idea why this is happening? And what caused it? He brought it to the dealer to check it out, but the dealer says they can't find out what is wrong with it, and then charged him around 80 bucks for just checking...And nothing was fixed...

Re: 97 Accord Fan motor squeaks.

maybe an O-ring on the spindle gone bad. If you smell anything with it too, could be the motor getting ready to lock, windings burning.

Other possibility is some debree got sucked in from the outside vent and is stuck on it.

those are my thoughts.

Squeeks or squeals? In any case a dealer can fix it. It does involve removing the whole dash to get to the fan motor. Have him go back to the dealer and get it resolved. If you can not get satisfaction, have him contact the district rep for America Honda.

It sounds like when a moving part don't have any lube...squeek?

Re: 97 Accord Fan motor squeaks.

I think they will charge him to replace the motor and the diagnosis fee of $80 should included in the labor fee. Sounds like an easy diagnosis.

Re: 97 Accord Fan motor squeaks.

Me thinks they should have also replaced the motor while they were in there. The labor costs to remove the dash console is higher then the cost of the motor and then they would not have to go in there again. I would complain hard that they screwed up and only pay for the motor and not the labor to go in there again.

But the problem is that that frickin' noice doesn't stay on all the time, it comes up for a while, and goes off for a while, and can come back on again. It's driving us nuts...because we can't always make it come on at the dealer.
