Bypassing ignition switch; 66 GTO
Due to suspected rusted out ignition switch on car that had sat for 15 yrs, needed to bypass ignition switch. I used a remote starter and a wire running from + battery terminal to coil termnal with yellow and white wires; NOT the one that has black wire running to distributor. Started right up; ran for a while (5 mins), then died. No spark. Could I have damaged the coil, points, etc.
Thanks. |

Re: Bypassing ignition switch; 66 GTO
I think you are lucky any of those parts lasted that long if it sat for 15 years. Most likely it is the condesor for the points that burned out first. Might as well replace those. Then if it still kept trying, it would have burned out the coil. I believe you can take the coil in and have it tested at a parts store. Might as well replace the points though. Distributer cap and rotor while you are there.
