Angry 2000 with 120K ... tossed rod

well my 2000 Montana tossed a rod today ... looks like a new motor is the only resort.

I have to tell you that this could not come at a worse time. My wife and I have no money and are trying to pay off all our bills so we can get a house. The van is out of warrenty and I don't think that GM will do anything about it. So it looks like we are going to take it off the road and use our secondary car full time.

does anyone have any idea how much I'm looking at for a motor and swap? Is there any thing I can do? Or am I stuck fixing this out f my pocket?

Sorry about the rant ... just lost myself for a bit

Sorry to hear that. I'm fixing my pile of crap right now also. I would think that a new motor installed would cost $3-4k. As far as money goes though, it would be the cheapest option over the long run. I think the best thing to do would be to get it replaced.

Best of luck.

Re: 2000 with 120K ... tossed rod

I would try to get motor from a wrecker with low mileage. When I looked into it they had 3 of them ready for installation. $1000 CDN plus 650 to install. I thought it was a decent price.
One piece of advice I would replace intake manifold gasket before I put motor in. It is much simpler and cost $75.

Re: 2000 with 120K ... tossed rod

$1300 for a motor from the wreckers... $1000 to install ... I HATE THIS VAN!!!

just did the intake gasket last year around this time the A/C stopped working in the fall, the power door busted one of the bogie wheels off and scratched the snot out of the side of the van this winter, the rear wiper works when it wants to, just did the brakes about 2 weeks ago, the driver side seat moves around and squeeks like mad, the radio doesn't light up on one side, the alt. need sthe ground screw so the light don't flicker, replaced the fog lights and boiled the lenses, CEL is on all the time, and now the engine let go. I HATE THIS @$^$)%ing VAN!!!
