My roommate was driving the car when the main belt broke. She continued to drive it until it overheated, lost power and died, she said about 1-2 miles. The car will not start, no compression - but compression in the radiator when turning over. No water in the oil, or out the tailpipe. With the radiator cap off the water blows out. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Re: '90 Loyale Head or Head Gasket? SOS
Anti freeze will stop the oil from doing its job of lubricating the engine, no coolant circulation will cause it to over heat damaging the head gaskets and may cause the heads to warp, they are only aluminium, did she notice white smoke coming from the exhaust? If there was, the Anti freeze has entered the engine and that would be bad. Extreme wear on the cylinders will give you loss of compression. Until it is lifted out of the car you will not know the extent of the damage. Look around on the net for a rebuilt engine there are many scrap yards with engines available to swap for the damaged one you have now. it may be cheaper than repairing it.
Good luck |

Re: '90 Loyale Head or Head Gasket? SOS
sounds like a bad head gasket, combustion gasses in the radiator, but it dont sound bad enough since no water in the oil, which can tear up the bottom end
if you are handy with a wrench or know a good mechanic for cheap this car is definately worth the fix. i have seen them worse, and put worse together myself
