I know the JDM b16 is a DOHC i'm not sure about the USDM b16 in the civic si, i think it's a SOHC, not absolutly sure. That may be the difference.

The major difference is the upgrade from OBD 1 to OBD 2.

Folks, if you don't know, don't answer. It's very simple.

That would be a DOHC, just like the rest of the B series.

muahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT

B16As are found in OBDI and OBDII Civic SiRIIs. The advantage is the JDM one has about 168-170hp whereas the USDM version packs 160hp.

peace

You also have to take into account that JDM motors are running on higher compression because of the higher octane fuel used in Japan. That is a big reason behind the hp increase.

What about transmission?

I'm thinking about just buying the motor alone if the usdm tranny will work. I figure that may save a few bucks. If you can use a usdm tranny which ones will work? Is the electrical system different on the jdm vs usdm? The seller i'm talking to is giving me an option of the obd1 or obd2 ecu. Which do you reccomend I get and how can you tell the difference by looking at it. What else will i need to do a complete swap. I know that the motor mounts will work fine. Will I just need the axles if i'm getting the jdm sir II motor and tranny? Thanks for all your help and i'd appreciate it if either VTEC_boi, Rice-Rocketeer, or anyone who can really help answer the questions.

Yo vtec_boi, i like you signature. Its hilarious!

PWO, PR3, and P30 are all differant B16 ECU's ... the one you need will depend on the car you have. Which car will you be swapping into? Anything 96+ you will want to go with OBD2

Any b-series tranny will work but the B16 and B18C1 trannies are reccomended for the gearing.

If they are the same OBD...no. They might have slight differences to your car which will be addressed with the swap.

I reccomend staying with the same OBD system your car originally came with to keep it legal. 5th gens had OBD1 and 6th gens had OBD2.

You will need the axles from an LS, if I remember correctly. But don't quote me on that, you need to research.

Anyways...

Just order your motor through Sparq - he sells JDM B16As and can point you in the right direction.

If you need to know anything else just hit me up on here or AIM: Thevtecboi

or...(shameless plug) for JDM civic info and fun www.jdmcivic.com
