2000 Contour

My 2000 contour was running rough pulled codes p0340 cam positon sensor circuit malfunction Went to start it to bring in to my shop and wont start check spark and fuel everything was good i pulled the timing cover off and the belt was really loose took it to the mechanic he replaced the timing belt it starts now and runs but will stall out same code is coming up again so im wondering because the old belt was missing 7 teeth in it if when he put the new belt on if maybe the timing is lined up close enough for it to run but not perfect. If the timing jumps like that is it possible to get it lined back up perfect. according to alldata you have to have a special tool to hold the camshafts in place and a peg tool to hold the crank im thinking he probably does not have these tools so im wondering if that would be the problem the timing is off by a hair and and thats whats throwing the code? of is there something else wrong?

Re: 2000 Contour

Yes, it is possible that the mehanic has the timing off by a tooth, just one tooth and it will run, but not too good. I would take it somewhere reputible that can tell you what's wrong with it and then ask yourself if it is really worth all the money......

i guess there are no timing marks so is there a way once its out of time to get it back truely in time because there are no marks or is there a way to tell by the position on the cam shafts?
