87 Bronco II keep's conking out when warm

Hi Everyone!

Have an 87 Bronco II that keep's conking out when it run's for a little while. It usually start's up after a few tries...so far we have replaced:
Throttle Positioner Sensor, New Computer, New Coil, New iginition modular. Someone has suggested that we either replace or completely remove the catylitic convertor??? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks So Much

Try replacing the fuel pump...my 87 does the same thing on a rare basis when warm and I had a mechanic take a look and he said on this kind of model if the fuel pump has never been replaced then thats a step to take. Good luck with it.

Try checking the engine coolant temperature sensor. It is located under the throttle body and points toward the right side of the vehicle. You can test it with an ohm meter and compare the results with the shop manual to see if it's resistance is correct for the temperature it is at.

I just replaced one on an '86 Bronco 2 that was telling the ECM that the temperture was zero all the time. The engine would start fine but the longer it ran the richer it got because the fuel was vaporizing better at the higher temps. When the engine temperature got high enough, the air/fuel ratio got so rich the engine would die and not restart until it cooled back down.

Listen for a loud whining in the rear. In that case it is most likely the fuel pump bearings going out. They do that. As for me, I hollow or cut off the cats on all my vehicles pre 97. If its getting a rich fuel mixture or a misfire they clog up quick. If you have a buddy with a scan tool you can find out real quick what your sensors are telling your ECM.

I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY 88 BRONC RUNNING ALONG JUST FINE THEN WOULD QUIT WHILE DRIVING AND NOT START BUT WHEN IT WANTED TO. :cry AFTER READING OTHERS POSTS AND SEEING THEY HAD REPLACED FILTERS AND PUMPS TO NO AVAIL, :shrug I THOUGHT THE INERTIA SWITCH MIGHT BE DEFECTIVE. I FOUND THE INERTIA SWITCH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR RIGHT UNDER THE DASH. IT WAS FRIED. I CUT THE SWITCH AND PLUG OUT AND TIED THE TWO WIRES TOGETHER. NOW SHE IS RUNNING JUST FINE! :rockon THE DOWN SIDE IS, DONT HAVE A WRECK! GAS WILL STILL BE PUMPING! GOT A NEW SWITCH AT THE FORD HOUSE BUT IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE THE OLD ONE. IT HAS A 3 HOLE PLUG AND MY OLD ONE ONLY HAD 2. ANYWAY U GUYS MIGHT TRY THIS IF U HAVE PROBLEMS WITH STALLING OUT AND NOT STARTING. :beer NOW I THINK I'LL GO HAVE ONE. CJY
