4.0 L 2000 Fuel Filter , Aftermarket?????

I got boned replacing that tiny $85 dealer only filter once before so want to change it out for something else.. Anyone ever simply replace with a standard hose and clamp type? I know its high pressure yadda yadda but still, double clamping the thing like on my Z24's fuel line hookup has worked fine. I am not interested in that neat little clip setup for big $$$.

If your 2000 4.0 is the same as my 99 4.0 which i believe they are, the fuel filter is also the pressure regulator.
D/C doesn't require routine maintenance on filter/regulator only when problem occurs.

Nope, Got Lucky There

Thats one POS arrangement if ever I saw one. If I ever had cause to open one of those up it would never go back in and the filter would be where it belongs, in the line. Somehow they smartened up and knocked that off with the newer models. $85 for a filter is bad enough which is why I am going to go to a standard one if there is a way to. Hell most FI systems use a threaded setup then have a hose somewhere on the system with only clamps, go figure

1. The regulator/filter on newer model Grand Cherokees (up to 2004) has never changed, it is already in the fuel line.

2. The regulator/filter is part of the emission system. If you alter it, you may not pass smog.

3. Are you ready to fabricate a fuel regulator that meets the specs. of the Jeep ? Because a "standard hose and clamp type" will not work and there are no after market replacements. If it doesn't operate as Chrysler designed it, your engine will not run properly if at all.

4. A 2000 Jeep should not require one, never mind two regulators/filters.
If there is one item on a Jeep that is trouble free it is the fuel regulator.
I would ask what you are putting in the tank that ruins them so frequently.

5. You own a late model, high end SUV and you complain about an $85. part ? What are you going to do if it ever needs a fuel pump ($350.) or other part exclusive to Chrysler ?
We all get hosed when we have to buy over priced dealer parts, get used to it.
