Tire wobbles.
Hi everybody.
I had noticed that both my rear wheels were wobbling. And about a week ago I did the tire rotation with balanced included. So Once on the highway reaching speeds of about 50 MPH my steering wheel started to vibrate. remember now that the tires have been rotated rear to front. Could it be that the rim is bent or the tire is not mounted correctly to the rim ? This is for a 93 Grand Cherokee Limited. Tire size is 245/70/16.Yokohama Geolander H/T . Any help is appreciated thanks. |

It could be the rims. only the tires were rotated, and not the whole wheel with the rim? But I think it could be the axle. If for some reason it is bent even slightly, the it would cause the wheels to wabble. I think you may want to get it checked before it gets worse.

The jeep came with the stock rims size 15. The rims I have on right now are from a 2000 Grand Cherokee rim size 16. Since they did not fit I had to buy adapters. Could the adapters have something to do with the wobble? I also noticed the wobble problem in the rear two weeks prior when I got the tires rotated. I noticed the problem when I took the jeep for the smog check. ( when they hook it up to the smog machine and step on the gas the rear wheels had the wobble )now since the rear wheels were put on the front I have the wobble problem in the front and not the back.

It sound like the wheels are the problem since the rotation now you have front wobble. Try Jacking up the front end and with a jackstand and a piece of straight metal hold the jackstand a couple inches away from the wheel and slide the metal close to the rim about a 1/4 in. away. Turn the wheel and see if you can notice any variation in the wheels you might have a bent Rim.

You said the wheels are from a 2000 were they Junk yard rims?
The 2000 may have been in accident causing warping. I'd also have a talk with the tire monkey who rotated and balanced them he should have picked it up on the balance machine especially if it was visible while doing the smog test. Yes the tire spacers can cause problems especially with the ball joints. |

So I decided to take the Jeep to the tire shop. I explained to them the problem so I had them balanced again. And yes one of the rims is bad. Once on the balancing machine you could see it clearly. So they decided to take off the rim from the tire and behold the problem. Appearently the jeep that these rims came from had been in a car accident, I called the guy who sold me the rims today in the morning and he told me that he had fixed the rim because it was bent. So what I did now is put the bad rim in the rear. Now there is no vibration but I am getting a new rim for about 50.00. Thanks for all the Help everybody.
