Another fun fix with the Jimmy

Hello and good afternoon all...I have yet found another problem with my 97 Jimmy..Yesterday while driving I turned on the heater and smelled the wonderful sweet smell of antifreeze coming through the vents..Looked under the hood and checked the oil (was ok.)Found that the intake manifold gasket was leaking..Has anyone else had to deal with this problem? If so is it very hard to do? I have looked int the forum and could not find how diffucult it was to do..My guess is it will take a few hours..Any input would be greatly appreciated..Thank you in advanced...

I had the same problem. It cost me a 800.00 dollars to get the gasket. Two months later the motor went. I swore to myself the next time I had a intake gasket go I'd just spend the extra and rebuild the motor and end any chances of any other motor problems.

I had the same problem with my '96. It took a few hours but not bad at all. Just make sure that you mark the distributor and rotor before you pull it. It will help later when you go to start it. I replaced the upper plenum gasket as well as the intake gaskets. Just get a ggo set of gaskets like Fel-Pro and you will be all set. I was a little intimidated when I first looked at doing mine but it went smooth. Good luck.
