Uh oh,...my perfect running 203000 mile 94 montero, has a bug. while driving the last couple of days, I noticed my speedometer would drop to "o" (while at any speed) then bounce back up to the normal reading. Just for grins, I reached under the dash and "wiggled" a wire harness, and after that it seemed to work fine. Today I drove many miles offroad, and when I got back to the pavement, it was dead...period. I also noticed the cruise control is out too. Anyone have any ideas? It would appear they are wired together. All fuses under the dash are good, and so are the ones under the hood.....Im stumped.

Doesnt sound like this was a "popular" problem (what problem is..) but for those who wondered,...this wound up being relatively simple to repair. The part I needed was a speed sensor, which threads into the tailhousing of the transmission. Cost was about $70.00 for the part, and about 15 minutes of time from one of the guys at the dealership where I work. What a relief to be able to glance in my rear view mirror, then at my speedometer (knowing I'm doing 70mph), and realize that the guy stuck to my rear bumper is the idiot,..not me!
