OK, maybe the Wheel Cylinder (brake cylinder) is sticking. or possibly a crushed line.

When the brakes lock-up is it after you press on the pedal, or do they lock up by themselfs?

Do both rear brakes stay locked or is it just one? If one is locked it could be out of adjustment or the shoes may be bent or binding due to a wheel cylinder. If both brakes are locking could be the proportioning valve . Could also be the Master Cylinder most probally the prop valve. If you ABS light comes on it could be the ABS Rear Wheel Atilock Valve. Take the rear drums off and inspect the shoes True and brake fluid also check the Parking Brake cable to make sure it is not out of adjustment and not seized . Check the Parking Brake Cable First and go from there.

Re: 93 gc rear brakes lock n stay locked

[I did do one cylender and the other seemed fine, emergency brake is fine too.The wife said it almost happend the day before yesterday the brake light came on and she felt the back brakes pulling and smelled brakes all the way home.Yesterday we took it to a jeep dealer and he said the right rear brakes were melted and quoted us 900.00 for a brake job.Ha Ha.this weekend i will be going to town with new pads shoes wheel cylinders calipers spring kit master cylender and taking apart the proportioning valve and i will change all the fluid. If this doesn't work who nows what is going to happen to it.
