Re: simple way to Power up a Natural Aspiration engine.(non V-tec)

as far as intake and all goes you can see how much air it will allow to flow and the part alowing the least air flow should be the first to be upgraded.
ie
Engine X
its filter element will alow 1000cfm
pipe from filter element to TB allows 450cfm
TB allows 400cfm
Manifold allows 400cfm
heads only alow 300cfm
cams 350cfm

heads would give the largest benifit. replacing the air filter would do nothing.

after the heads, cams would be the next best power adder. then manifold, then TB. then intake piping.

But to do all of that you need to completely dissasemble the engine and have every part run on a flow bench.
Not exactly an economical way of building an engine.

About the only way you can find where the restrictions lay is resurch.
At some point in time someone else has replaced all the differnt parts and experiances the gains. They have then told someone, or posted the results on the internet, or written them down in a book.
If you find the right information you can find out where the biggest restriction lays, and what needs to be done to fix it.

For older engines, and especialy ones that are popular in race cars, like the Toyota 4age there already exists even more technical data on what sort of performance is avliable from what parts.
Becuase the engine is so popular in race cars several people have already done what CBFryman mentioned and taken the time and expense to test all the differnt parts on a flow bench and dyno.
Again all you have to do is find that information, either on the internet, in a book, or by work of mouth.

This topic just to start for some basic upgrade to the engine ,the improvement is not just 3 HP and the people who love car knew the fact that factory setting are to make the engine last longer and lower the cost .

and the driver attitude count on it !

ps: i not a racer and i just wants a fun car to drive for everyday

If you really want to get power out of a naturally aspirated engine, you are going to have to sacrifice time, money, and the life of your engine. If you can commit to that, do the research and get hoppin. If you can't do the work yourself, find a shop that really knows what they are doing with that specific engine and do it. Time and money

Did I mention lots of money.
