Ranger Check Engine Lite Question

My Dad took his 93 Ranger to the shop....they told him that it was the
ignition module. The cost estimate was $450.00. Is this located on the manifold? Is this estimate in the ballpark. I am in the Baltimore/Washington Area.

It's not the ignition module

they said it needs to go to a dealer. The check engine light is on
the engine starts...sometimes it hesitates at starting.

Performance ok....mileage good.

But the Emissions Test weenies won't take it if there is a light on.

Any thoughts?
