91 Ford Escort GT Major tranny problems

Hey guys my brother in law has a 91 Escort GT and last night he was goin down a hill shoved in clutch and hit brake and when he went too shift to 5th it didn't wanna go he put it back in 4th and at the bottom of the hill he shifted too 5th no problem, well we figured it had something too do with a extremely broken shock but then he dropped me off at home and he was goin home "up a dirt road" and like 3 min from his house he went too first to slow down for a hole in teh road and well now somethin is majorly messed up, the car has no gears other than 1st and Neutral, and ya cant move the shifter any firther than 1st and N and sometimes it is harder than heck too get into Neutral, He just bought the car from an Individual bout 3 month's ago and it had been sitting for a few years "2 or 3" but it drove fine and shifted fine until now. sometimes when ya go from Neutral too first it will act like it's dragging on something.


Ok now from the Haynes Manual we either think it's the shifter linkage or the spring broke in the shifter and it is lodged in their and not letting it do anything. I mean it is just like sitting and pushin against a brick wall when tryin too shift into 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and reverse.

Well I'm done blabbering and I sure hope someone knows something about this issue. and if it is the tranny it's self what exactly happened too it?

my car did the same thing... i shifted into 3rd.... and got stuck, i wiggled the shit out of the shifter... and i managed to get it into 5th and reverse... whatever the problem is, im guessing we both have the same problem.........check my post "please help manual trans problems please ! "

well we checked teh shifter it'ss elf today and nothing their, gunna check Linkage tomorrow and if nothing comes up their then this weekend the tranny is coming out. My guess on all this would be the insides of tranny are wore out and the gears are running on each other thuss letting it change gears.

Hey BReal atleast your not runnin bout 7000 RPM's at 15-20 mph lol.
