Aquired a 94 Saturn...3000 rpm idle??
Just aquired a 94 (4dsd) and the guy said he took off the governor and thats the reason it idles so high? Where would this be located at and/or what do I need to do to bring it back to normal idle speeds?
I searched previous threads and it refered to the EGR (location?) ECT (location?) or a dirty IAC (location?) Any Thoughts would be apreciative. |

3 things, first your engine idles higher when cold to help the engine warm up if this was your RPMs while warm then
- i would try simply using the idle adjust screw which is located on the lower front side of throttle body. just remove the rubber cover on it (if still present), then with the engine off, use a torx head bit ,I believe, and slowly (1-2 turns at a time) back the screw off, then start 'er up and check your idle RPMs, and re-adjust as necessary, your ideal RPMs are about 700-800 with the engine warm (The guy might not have known what was going on with it) -second, other people on this forum may suggest changing your ECTS or engine coolant temperture sensor, I have not had the need to but if you decide to then here is the URL for a good post http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...highlight=ects or goto Saturnparts.net and request a brass two-wire ECT sensor

Re: Aquired a 94 Saturn...3000 rpm idle??
the idle set srcew is not at fault, unless the last owner turned it. the only case i know of on a saturn that the idle set screw needed adjusted was on a aftermarket throttle body.
and by governor does he mean the RPM and speed limiters? if so i think he is giving you a line of bull. removing the governor requires hacking the PCM, which i only know of one man who can do the job. chances are the problem is: 1. ECT, 2. clogged or sticking IAC and/or EGR, or 3. vacuum leak pictures of locations will come as soon as Saturnfans.com is back online(someone has been hacking it lately) |

ECT replacement - http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24003
IAC mounted on throttle body - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/sho...p/photo/15887/ there were two styles of EGRs for the 94 year: electric for californa emissions - http://www.saturnfans.com/photos/sho...p/photo/18397/ and vacuum for federal emissions, same place, shaped like a spaceship, no adapter plate. |
