E36 2jz engine swap
I am thinking about doing the following:
1- buy an old e36 coupe 2- swap its engine with a 2jz (supra's engine) and drivetrain 3- tune up suspension Having seen an E36's engine bay and knowing that a 2jz will fit. and i'm especially encouraged when i found out that the M3 and the supra turbo share the same gearbox. and I am wondering, has this been done yet or if at all possible? |

thanks for the post.
I am definately going to consider this seriously now, but i hear that getting the 2jz and 6speed from japan costs about $3500. i think i need a bit more research before going ahead. i'll make sure to post any progress.. thanks again |

Re: E36 2jz engine swap
I am about to tackle this project in a couple months. I have a 325is, and i plan on putting a 1jz in it myself. I plan on spending about 4k on the swap. I'll take the 1 or 2jz over the 3.0 m3 turbo any day. For one simple reason... The Toyota's can handle 25+ lb of boost on stock internals. I love BMW, but when it comes to boosting, I dont recomend going BMW.

That guy is exactly right any dealer will tell you turbos do not belong on BMW the engine is not designed for that at all. The BMW is known for great long term engines with an ample amount of power, but most of all they are known for precision handling witch is unmatchable by most. I think it's a great idea and i plan to do something similair once my ride is off warranty. Best of luck and let us know how it goes.
Oh and where did you find the engine? |

Re: E36 2jz engine swap
I know alot of people that have turbo or supercharged their BMW's and no problems. . . .
What about this then . . . Engine: BMW S50, Supercharged & Turbocharged Boost: 1.5 Bar Power: Estimated 600 hp & 600 Nm of torque http://www.savspeed.co.za/index.php?...position=14:14 BMW is not Rice . . . but it's your car . . .

That bimmer had to of had some work done internally. there is no way you will find a bmw handling 1.5-2 bar of boost without putting some serious money into it. dont forget, anything is possable if you have the money. in regards to the motor i plan on getting, there are many places that ship half cuts strait from japan, and sell them. some of them are www.jarcoinc.com , and www.nadauto.com. they are all in the atlanta area. im sure there are some anywhere you go.
