New Century owner with questions

We just got a 2001 Century with the 3.1 engine with 20,000 miles on it.. This was my wife's Dad's car. Although he bought it new, it looks like he bought the extended warranty only a year ago when it had 17,000 miles.

We just drove the car 750 miles home and I must say that I was pretty impressed with it. We got a very surprising 30 mpg, a comfortable ride for the front passengers however a little cramped for the rear. The power and handling were also much better than expected. I must say, this is a pretty nice car so far.

We plan on keeping this as a first car for our daughter, I’m sure she wished Grandpa would have bought a Mustang or some other equally cool car but I’m sure she will endure.

Anyway, Grandpa left records that he had the oil changed regularly and just put in a new battery in January.

My questions to you is, are there any issues I should take care of that I might not be aware of. Is there a way to check any recalls to see if they were done? I’ve read some concerns about the coolant, there is a red coolant in there now, should this be changed?
Anything else? I guess I should drop it off at a dealer but I wanted to know if there were issues that I should express to service dept. when I do.

Re: New Century owner with questions

Just keep up with the routine maintenance. Have the transmission serviced with fluid and filter changes, just don't flush the tranny. You may want to consider changing to synthetic oil as it lubricates better and does not break down like fossil oil. The Dex-cool issue is one I really don't want to tackle here, I have it in my GTP and after 141K no real problems yet! You can check for any recalls at recalls.gov as they should have any old and current ones for this vehicle.
