93 ssei acceleration hesitation

I just bought a 93 Bonneville SSEI with only 78xxx miles on it, and under heavy acceleration, the car hesitates very badly, and it seems to be worse the faster I am going, but runs fine under normal to light acceleration. What should I check and / or replace?
Thanks!

THis condition probably leaves some traces behind...better to begin with reading the codes. I t can be (nost probable) MAFsensor, poor fuel pressure , but also firing problems...so get some codes out first and come back. THis is OBD1 so just jump connectors A and B,
www.avigex.ca/xport/plug.jpg , turn the key on, and read the codes from the CEL light.: 12 will come first, and the n stored codes.

Re: 93 ssei acceleration hesitation

OK most of the elements I mention before shoulf have thrown an error code, except MAF. When mine started that show about like you describe, trying to overtake was a real challenge....
I would be told it is the fuel pump, the fuel filter, the ignition pack....! While all of the above could have been possible, that was none of that stuff. In fact, I found the MAF sensor to be dirty(and no codes) :
www.avigex.ca/xport/maf.jpg
the key element is a small shiny wire across the intake throat and that was covered by kind of gray claylike material . (my fault: had run it without an air filter for a little while) Used Q tip or artist paintbrush with alcohol to clean it up and all returned to normal.
Cleaning it will cost nothing but 2 drops of alcohol . If not that, always time to look for something else later.
