Re: broken hood latch

Did the cable snap or is it just jammed?

The cable itself broke approximately 2-3 ft inside the cable, I pulled that much out of the cable when it happened. I'm not sure what the next move should be.

Re: broken hood latch

jack it up, use a wrench or something to trigger the mechanism. replacing that part is just annoying. if you are sure its broke, as in "in the middle somewhere" you have no other alternative than to jack it up and use an L shaped something. i used a ratchet with a pivot head.

What car, your profile says 91 cherokee!?!?! If it's a 2nd gen cav you can just remove the grille and get to the latch

Re: broken hood latch

Even better experience for you. My cable broke on my 2nd gen, all you have to do is stick your arm through the"mouth" opening under the bumper, reach straight up and you'll feel the little lever where the wire connected. Just push that peice the the right (drivers side,) I've had to do this a hundred times, I've got a cable now but I still do it this way sometimes. It takes a few times to get used to where it is.

I saw another 2nd gen. for sale and wondered if it was TBI or MPI. It was locked, so, I poped the hood from the front, it's too easy.
