hatch door problems

the hatch door on my 88 gt is rattling when i go over bumps. im thinking it could be the bushing on the latch. whats everyone else think?

i had the same problem and it turned out to be the hatch hinge was shot. the little plastic bushings were gone on the hinge.

i bought a new hinge, it was about 60 bucks at a ford dealership but u may find one on ebay for less or try any of these sites. www.mustangsunlimited.com, www.texasmustang.com,www.yearone.com

The bushing is the first thing to check, like stated. I also had a problem with my old GT where the hatch was not lined up properly, and I have to un-do the bolts and re-align the hatch.

Check your hatch striker, I had the same problem with my hatch rattling on my 93 GT. Replaced the striker and all is well. Got the strike at Discount Auto for $12.00.

i just replaced the stricker and the rubber bumbers on the sides. the ratteling is still there. to realign the top do you have to undo all the bolts.

once you take the access panel off from the roof, there are to bolts to loosen, thats it.
