Power window switch broken, 97 Grand Marquis

I have a 97 Grand Marquis that I was told is the same as a 97 Crown Vic.
The up and down button thing that operates the passenger side window will only go down using the one on the drivers side. The switch on the passenger side still operates the window up and down.
I would assume the switch is bad on the driver’s side? How complicated of a job is this to replace this switch? I have a friend that is a back yard mechanic that will do this for me if I can find a book that tells him what needs to be removed and how it is removed. I plan on going to town next week and go to the library and see if I can check out a book if they have one for him to look at.
Is this to much of a job for a “back yard mechanic” or should I take this to the dealer and get it fixed?
Thanks Karen

Switch is easily replaced. Just need a flat screwdriver to pry the plastic trim piece out, and a phillips screwdriver to remove screws holding the switch in place.

By the “plastic trim piece” do you mean the piece that covers all the switches? There is no single piece for each switch; each just sticks up out of the arm rest.
Thanks
