Odd (and probably dumb) Question

I've been noticing a lot of SUV's have more HP than our cars. Can they kick our ass? Or because of the size difference and stuff are they still slower than us? I'm just wondering because here by our house we have this 2 lane road that merges into 1 lane right after a light. Well everyone knows this, its a pretty busy road since its right by a military base and its a residential housing type area after this light.

But really often I'll be sitting at the light waiting for it to turn green and an SUV will come up in that right lane to get ahead of the 20 cars waiting in the left lane and try to jump me and I have never let anyone jump me at the light. So I'm just wondering since these people have more HP why do I always beat them anyway when they try to jump me at that light?

I have a 01 GT if your wondering. and no I don't street race, just have a HUGE pet peeve about people doing that right there so I always hand them their ass.

they might have more power, but look at their weight. they weigh 3 times as much and only have twice as much power

Re: Odd (and probably dumb) Question

Honestly, it depends on which suv. Few but some suvs have fast 0-60, 0-100 times

Re: Odd (and probably dumb) Question

dude...well...they are heavier...normally have more torque than hp...in a red light to red light...we'd take them because we're lighter...we'd take them the first few gears...but they might take us in the long run...and yeah it would depend on what it is...

Keep racing them till one of them runs you over. Tell us which one it is so we all will know which one not to race!

haha funny.

I assumed it was cause of the weight, but I don't know much about SUV's.

We just have a shitload of soccer moms and their 1 kid and yet they drive the biggest SUV's they can find around here. Drives me insane. I could completely see having one if you had a lot of kids or actually used them as a sports utility vehicle, but no one around here does.

The Dodge Durango, and Jeep Grand Charokee both have some balls. Also so does the Excursion, Expidition, and Suburban.

How come they are making SUV's more powerful anyway? I mean come on soccer moms don't need that and its not like they tow shit or carry heavy loads anyway, at least not any of the ones around here. Most of them are bad enough drivers around here cause they yap on their cells while sucknig down their starbucks, putting on lipstick and driving. Sure doesn't make me feel much safer knowing they are also getting more power than they used to. Shit I saw a lady reading a damn book while driving the other day, I was like "holy shit! Look!" to my husband when I saw that. argh.

Re: Odd (and probably dumb) Question

its a government plot to keep us consumers buying more gas for those big V8's. a giant conspiracy, tupac, just like crack- the government invents it and makes it a necessity for certain individuals. they keep coming back for more that or mom has to get her kids to soccer games faster. BTW, i thought soccer moms drove mini-vans.....as the weight goes up so does the horsepower. you've gotta remember that new safety regulations require suv's to be crashworthy and not bound to tip over. heavier frames/bodies andcrumple zones and all that good 'ol safe stuff. also the traction control and whatever else is put on them to keep all fours on the ground adds some weight. 4WD adds a bit of weight too.

mainly the HP #'s- i think its for towing power, mom can go get grocery's and dad can pull his bass boat up to the lake. idontknow.........
