chevelle remote control mirror
I want to disassemble the remote control mirror on my
1971 Malibu so I can have it plated. The mirror is out of the car but I can't figure out how the cables are removed at the control knob. It looks like the cables are pinched in place and not intended to be removed. Has anyone been through the same process? I have seen very few Chevelles with the remote control mirror which was a factory option and I don't want to got to a standard mirror. HELP!!! |

They are pinched, which makes it a pain to remove. You have to be carefull, because its pot-metal. I used a very slim little craft saw and made it easier to pry it a little. You have to do all six places. Remember how it goes back together with photos. It may take a while to get it back from plater. Star at the bottom where the cable housings are attached and the unit will separate. The chrome knob will unscrew, be gentle, they sometimes break. Good luck.

Re: chevelle remote control mirror
Thanks for the info. I will let you know how I make out removing the cables. I do not have a digital camera
but will make several drawings for reassembly. I live in Georgia and have located a plater outside Atlanta that estimated 2 weeks turn around for my mirror and both bumpers. Not bad!! I have been trying to find a passenger door mirror that matches the remote mirror. Do you have any suggestions where I can locate one or should I go with a standard rectangular mirror I see in the Chevelle catalogs? |

According to my interchange manual; part # 3965921 The right hand mirror can be found on:1970 Impala; 1970-71 Nova; 1970-1972 Chevelle, all except station wagon or El Camino or 71-72 SS models.
Notes: Mirror fit either side of car. On Nova or Impala, mirror is used only on right side with remote left hand mirror. Your remote mirror should be Part # 3921832 Hope this helps!
