700R4 trans

I have a 91 5.7 L chevy caprice police pkg . I had to replace the torque converter. I picked the new one up from the parts store.The guy told me that the police pkg called for higher stall then stock 2025 RPM. my poblem is now the car wont shift out of first till 3200 RPM. even at slow speed's. I checked the TV cable & set it , it's not twisted. I have done a brake test, the trans fully engages at 2500 RPM. Do I have the wrong converter for this car? would this converter cause the shift to be at higher RPM.

The torque converter has nothing to do with the 1-2 shift. I have a 700R4 service manual at home and I can look up what can cause late 1-2 shifts.

Thank's but i just orderd a manual. after further inspection I found that 2nd gear is burnt. It was shifting 1st to 3rd.

2nd gear or the 2-4 band was burned up?

What are you going to do now? Have it rebuilt or buy one that has already been rebuilt?

im going to try to rebuild it. allready have rebuild a rebuild kit.

I think just 2nd seems to go into 4th.
