Hello.
I'm having a couple problems with my '02 Taurus SES. The O2 Sensor needs to be replaced, but that will be done sometime next week. In the past few weeks, my car has been doing some strange things, and i was hoping maybe someone in this forum might be able to shed some light on these two mysteries. The first thing is probably the most annoying of all. At times, my fuel guage will drop to empty, the gas light will come on, and it will stay there for a while. I know there is plenty of fuel in the tank, so I try to ignore it, and then slowly, it will creep up to where it should be. It does this off and on, sometimes multiple times in a day, and other days not once. I was thinking it might be the cold weather, but it seems to work fine on very cold and warm days, as does it seem to go whacky on me on those same types of days. Any ideas? The second freaked me out at first, but i realized its probably not an emergency. Ususally, when i take off from a dead stop, if I give it some gas and the RPMS get up over 3200, the Brake light (the same one that comes on when u pull on the E-Brake) will come on and doesn't go off until the RPMS drop. This to is not always happening, but often enough to notice. I say around 3200 because thats when I notice it, but its usually somewhre in the 3k and up. At first i though this might be because of the O2 sensor, but the more I think about it, that just doesn't make sense. Any ideas on that one? Thanx in advance for any input. I apprecaite it! Justin |

Re: Brake Light and Fuel guage
Have you checked to see if you have a loose wiring harness or a loose fuse? Your fuel gauge could need replacing. There was a time in my state just last year that an additive in the gas was causing the gas gauges to stick. The company that deleivered the gas paid for replacements. Check the switches on the emergency brake pedal and see if there are loose in anyway. In todays age of computer controled cars you might even have a computer malfunctioning thats causing all those things. I do not own your year car and I'm taking stabs in the dark, but you have somewhere to start in any case.

Re: Brake Light and Fuel guage
as for the brake light ( most important ) put some brake fliud in the car its getting low.
and for the fuel gauge naked dancer was partially right, in my area an additive in the fuel was carroding the fuel sending unit which has a float on it that controls the gauge, u should have it checked out by a repuitable repair shop and check into the repair being paid for by the company u get your gas. |
